Dim Sum | Coucou Disco

We received this in the old inbox a couple days ago from newly established Paris-based dance label SOUNDRESS

On the imprint’s first release, “Coucou Disco”, Dim Sum brings forth melodic motorik funky French disco house.

T.E.E.D. | Your Love (Pearson Sound & Fake Blood Remixes)

At the end of last month, T.E.E.D released an EP consisting of four intelligently juxtaposed adaptations of their impactful single, “ Your Love “. We at low-life were immediately attracted to these two.

Pearson Sound ‘s stripped naked edit showcases his signature drum finesse which in turn guides you through this active listening experience. Apologies for the snippet.

Similarly, Fake Blood retains their iconic sound with this turbulent dance floor edit.

Bless,

Rader

SONAR 2012 | Recap

[From 'La Distancia']

This weekend past, Barcelona was the capital of the world. Or, at the very least, it seemed as such, because between the buzz from artists and fans alike; the resulting heat, apprehension,  joy and euphoria; the all around sense of a welcomed cutting-edge, it was hard to assume it as anything else. It was Sonar 2012 .

Personal highlights are numerous:

Flying Lotus bouncing to Flosstradamous ‘s ‘Original Don Remix,’ alongside a super-sayaned Thundercat before making an impossibly smooth segue from a dubstep take on Wacka Flocka ‘s ‘Hard In Tha Paint’ to an utterly delicate jazz outro.

Jacques Greene voguing on Doc Daneeka ‘s dancefloor.

Darkside .

Brenmar uncharacteristically dropping an instrumental version of Joker ‘s ‘In My Head,’ inspiring Paul Salva to remark to his surrounding entourage (which included half of Nguzunguzu and Julio Bashmore ‘s manager, amongst others) “Man, 2 years ago we were all bitching about dubstep. Now we all miss it!”

Modeselektor .

Julio Bashmore playing out his infectious ‘Au Seve’ at 8′am, Sunday morning; a track that rightfully earned the title ‘Sonar 2012 Anthem.’

The list goes on…

[Flying Lotus]

[Amon Tobin]

[Azari & III]

[Nicolas Jaar]

[Jesse Boykins III]

[Salva]

[Squarepusher]

See you next year, Barcelona.

Daydreamer (Jack Beats Remix) | Flux Pavillion

[2011's 'Jack Loves You Tour' poster]

Its not difficult to speculate the motivation behind this remix; Beni G and Plus One , together known as Jack Beats , have been sustaining a level of popularity just below that of international eminence for almost four years now, and perhaps by associating with an artist like Flux , one who’s found success in both the UK and North America, the London-based duo would finally be able to obtain the pulsating mass of fans that every DJ day-dreams of at one point or another. Then again, maybe they just liked the original enough to have a go themselves. Either way, if you can get past the unbridled EDM-ness of the tune, you’ll find that signature goof-grime you’ve come to know, love, and expect from j-j-j-j-j- Jackbeats .

Mehdi | Ed Banger & Stones Throw

[quasi-object generated by Lorenzo Oggiano]

A recording brought to the surface by a certain Mr Mass . In March of 2009 Stones Throw & Ed Banger threw an event at Le Bataclan, Paris. This is the late Mehdi ‘s previously unreleased DJ set from the night.

Thefft | Inna Da

Jack Robinson is Thefft . There isn’t much to say about him because he only has two releases; however, within two releases he has found a signature sound that works. This particular track opens with a house-like atmosphere, and closes with more of a broken hip hop beat. Industrial synths are featured throughout with snappy staccato on the high end.
Play this track tonight wherever you may be. The variances in tempo will have ‘em up on their feet in no time.

Toddla T | Watch Me Dance

Watch me dance. And if you don’t, you’ll wish you did.

Watch Me Dance (SebastiAn remix) – Toddla T

SebastiAn tears up your shitty speakers with shredding static, the air raid siren and a smashing bassline.

Watch Me Dance (Heartbreak remix) – Toddla T

This rendition is nothing like the previous. Has a shroombahton feel to it and a cheeky hooker of a lead. Not to mention Roots Manuva’s signature verses from the original track which is coming out in August.

Birdy Nam Nam | Defiant Order

Birdy Nam Nam is comprised of 4 DJ’s from France. Clear parallels can be drawn between the sounds of other French electro producers and Birdy Nam Nam… Hold on let me pull out my Filthesaurus. Gritty pounding bassline under a spastic synth. No thats not it. Harmonious succulent synths over the distorted amplified sound of maggots fucking. No. No matter what I say. You will still have to listen to discern for yourself.

[Fullscreen that shit. Electro ]

A legit visual compliment no doubt, but what kind of edge could one possibly have after sounding like Justice and being from France?

Well to carry your imminent thought process gently through to the beginning: These four began by playing live sets. Featuring completely dismantled record scratching ensemble work. Been next level since 0-6. bitch.

Anyhow, these crazy fucks have a new song. A finger snappin’, head bobbin’ good time.
