The White Lamp | Ride With You EP

Hotflush ‘s first release of 2014 brings a handful of first-time contributors to the label…

UK-based duo The White Lamp , a collaboration between Darren Emerson and vocalist Peter Josef, follow up their soulful single “Make It Good” from last year with a moody sexy slow-burning anthemic tech house ballad “Ride With You.” Like “Make It Good” , “Ride With You” draws me in with its contagiously catchy melodic humming from Josef. “Ride With You” has less of a soulful disco flavour than “Make It Good” , and instead bears strong hints of new wave pop. In terms of the vibe, it reminds me of George Fitzgerald’s recent single “Magnetic” out on Double Six .

In addition to an extended dub by Emerson, the release also includes remixes from Berlin-based trio ItaloJohnson and Mike Dehnert . Each of the remixers strips away the pop feel of the song structure and vocal phrasing and delivers a distinctive dance-floor functionalist re-interpretation.

Ride With You drops January 27th. It will be available in digital format as well as on wax in limited quantities. Here is a little preview…

Huxley & Sam Russo | Don’t Undastand

Out now on London-based Leftroom Records , this collaboration between Huxley and Sam Russo combines a gritty muffled 1-bar bass riff with a rolling UK swing and manic hypnotic repetition of the vocal hook. Anticipation builds as the Solina strings drop back into the mix at (3:21) and we hear a fat square-wave analog synth arpeggio swelling up from the abyss (3:27) into the forefront of the soundstage…

Here is a little preview… Pick up the full-length version in a digital format here and on wax here .

Tuccillo | Organmind EP

Italian-born Ibiza-based Tuccillo delivers an extended meditation on jazzy balearic tech house over four distinctive tracks for the ninth offering from Holic Trax , which drops on vinyl and digital Feb. 12th.

Today, I have mere previews to share with you…

When I first listened through the EP in full, “Just Gotta Believe” ft. Howard grabbed me with it’s cheeky smooth vocal and the hypnotic interplay between the shady 2-bar bass riff and the warping permutations of accented TB-303 arpeggios.

But after coming back for a second and third listen, I have also grown fond of “Musickly”, which revolves around a simple disco bass line, the driving rhythms of the TR-909, and a handful of synths dancing in the distance dressed with warm verb’ and rhythmic delays that echo into the deep.

artworks-000060132830-iu5th9-t500x500

Praise George Fitzgerald and his label ManMakeMusic for its policy of sharing full-length versions of their new releases on SoundCloud.

This is the second offering from Laszlo Dancehall ( Leon Vynehall + Christian Piers ) on MMM –three driving lo-fi tech house belters, each with its own distinctive flavour–joined by the common threads of a 4/4 groove and the hiss of tape saturation.

“Whip That” is light-hearted funky Chicago/Detroit-inspired crunchy UK-house.

“Flute Works” is dark, hypnotizing and percussion-driven.

“Fatty Que” is an exuberant dynamic interplay between an indecipherable mangled pitched-down vocal snippet and a soft warm bed of analog chords over top of a relentless 909 loop.

If you’re feeling those cuts, here is a link to their first EP released back in May.

Jimmy Edgar | Mercurio EP

artworks-000058181905-d5102g-t500x500

This is Jimmy Edgar ‘s second appearance on his new Berlin-based Ultramagic imprint. The Mercurio EP/single includes “Mercurio” and “Ultraviolet” and “Qlinda”.

“Ultramajic has lofty aims, uniting Edgar’s twin passions for ritual magick and meditation while focusing on developing new artists and a new personal sound.”

MidnightMachine | Deep Truth

In the SoundCloud description for this track, MidnightMachine , (a.k.a. Marco Dray and Dercio Gomate–a duo out of Maputo, Mozambique), reminds us of an undeniable fact: “You need NEED good speakers or headphones to really feel the beat!” (Apple earbuds won’t cut it.)

If you do have a decent sound-system at your command, then you don’t need me to inform you that this sinister tech-house jam is heavy and crisp…

I’m guessing this must be some kind of preview because it’s only just over two minutes long…

artworks-000059176824-ph9b90-t500x500

“Back 2 U” is the bastard child of 8prn and PIZZASLIME

The duo layers warm bass stabs, barely decipherable chopped & re-pitched vocal snippets drenched in verb’ and a mental squiggly lead-synth riff over top a pulsing four-to-the-floor groove…

Dense & Pika | Colt EP

I wish Hot Flush would put up full-length tracks on SoundCloud instead of these unsatisfying teaser compilations, but that’s all we get for now…

Here is a preview of Dense & Pika ‘s Colt EP out on October 13th…

The title track is the definite stand-out for me upon first listen through. If you know this duo for their cold-as-ice stripped-down machine rhythms, you might be surprised by the musicality, warmth, and soul of “Colt”.

The live percussion jam in the last cut is very compelling as well.

Invisible Conga People | In a Hole (Tennis edit)

I just discovered this Berlin-based producer–Mr. Manifredi Romano a.k.a. Tennis , Life & Death, and Self Portrait.

This edit of Invisible Conga People ‘s “In A Hole” is deep, weird, soulful in the best senses of the words…

Daughter | Youth (Lane 8 remix)

artworks-000056340781-igw0x9-t500x500

San Francisco’s Lane 8 put together this soulful tech-house adaptation of Daughter’s melancholic ballad “Youth” .

It came out month ago and I slept on it, but I just came across it yesterday and decided it was worth sharing with you… (Don’t forget to cop the free download if the tune resonates with you!)

Out now on Kompakt , Roosevelt ‘s take on COMA’s “Les Dilettantes” is a slow-burning bittersweet disco pop jam session.

Booka Shade | Love Inc

For his latest LP release entitled Half Of Where You Live , out now on No Town and Ghostly , Gold Panda commissioned Fort Romeau to remix one of the tracks.

With his re-interpretation of “ Community “, Fort Romeau delivers a deep progressive house odyssey that evolves organically over eight and a half minutes. Don’t hold your breath waiting for ‘the drop’… This one requires patience.

Adapt | Rokcr Broth

artworks-000049211984-lemtea-t500x500

This stomping techno cut is taken from Adapt ‘s Atlántico LP recently released on Barcelona-based AvantRecords . “Rokcr Broth” sent me involuntarily into a raving frenzy while driving the other day when I first streamed it via XLR8R…

I have not yet heard anything else off the album , but after stumbling upon this one gem, I’ll be sure to cop the whole thing and let it run from the top in the very near future.
