Croydon-based producer Deft has spent the last year or so experimenting with a variety of electronic genres ranging from hip hop to techno, and “a few things in between” (via Tempo Clash). Though he hasn’t exactly found his niche, the music that he’s crafted thus far has been notable. Recently, Alfred Darlington, better known as Daedelus, has been hyping Deft hard.

His latest, Jungle Jim, is a beat-driven tune that offers a glimpse into some of the sounds that he’s explored on his forthcoming EP, The Clotting (WotNot), set to drop on June 4th.

Brooklyn’s Baauer gave these away earlier this afternoon via Mad Decent’s free weekly single project, Jeffree’s. We have been waiting. Harlem Shake has been included on almost every Diplo and Friends mix including Diplo, Brodinski, and Flosstradamus. Twas also recently featured in Rustie’s Essential Mix.

James and Jas of Simian Mobile Disco dropped the Unpatterns LP today on Wichita Recordings. The duo will be conjuring up magic live via subtractive synthesis at Fabric in London this Friday evening to celebrate the release; (tickets and info here).

The publishers have generously and wisely made the entire LP available for free streaming. (And thankfully, they have opted to leave out the frustrating fade ins/outs that are typical of many SoundCloud “previews” these days).

If you haven’t heard their classic debut LP Attack Decay Sustain Release LP, and you like to dance, I suggest you get your hands on it and stick it on a quality system when the mood strikes you. (Their second LP, Temporary Pleasure, also offers a handful of gems such as, “Cruel Intentions”).

Back in the late ‘90s, James and Jas were studying folklore and physics respectively at Manchester University, while crafting experimental electronic jams in the spare room of their shared house. Although he eventually dropped out of his program, Jas’s grounding in quantum physics served him later on in music: the drum pattern on SMD’s early white label “Tits & Acid” was based on the matrix mechanics of Werner Heisenberg.

Six months ago, Clown & Sunset unshackled the first recordings of this collaborative entity. Today they  released this video, directed by Clown & Sunset’s associate and “in-house filmmaker”, Ryan Staake. The immersive qualities of the EP are far from lost as we follow these shrouded figures through a synchronic visual interpretation of the modern classic A1.

“DARKSIDE began when a converter plug exploded in Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington’s Berlin hotel room during their summer tour.  When the smoke cleared, their white Genelec speakers were fried. But rather than retiring for the night, they plugged into a computer and merged sounds, forming DARKSIDE.”
