Lone | Airglow Fires

Gilles Peterson has turned me onto a long list of deep soulful memorable cuts since I started listening to his radio show on BBC four or five years ago. This past Saturday afternoon, he opened up his three-hour set with this captivating number, which he described as “hi-tech jazz.” On “Airglow Fires,” Lone offers a refined balance of musical depth and dance-floor appeal. It will be released on R&S on July 14th.

We have been following Lone–a.k.a Matt Cutler of Nottingham–since Emerald Fantasy Tracks, his second full-length, released via Magic Wire. The new single “Airglow Fires” follows up his first full-length for R&S Records entitled Galaxy Garden. One of the stand-out cuts from Galaxy Garden you might remember is “Crystal Caverns 1991.”

The Celestics | KILL

[The Celestics]

The Celestin brothers put forth video treatment for their latest release titled “Kill” yesterday morning, and it stands as the second product from the Haitian -by way of Montreal- brotherly duo. It is assumed that the track “Kill” will be featured on the upcoming release “Supreme Laziness”  from The Clesetics; Kaytranada on the production, and his 18-year old brother Louis-P with the words.

The Video, directed by Christian Agyeman and John Aguilar, is delightful; comprised of electric blue geometric landscapes, 2-dimensional Japanese basketball players, and altered shots of the brothers dancing and rapping to the beat of their own creation.

Louis P lays down an impressive and filtered rap that flows quickly and harmonically overtop of Kaytranada’s skittering and jazzy production. The result is a fun 2 minutes; a teaser for what is to come from these two funky and talented brothers.

Adapt | Rokcr Broth

This stomping techno cut is taken from Adapt‘s Atlántico LP recently released on Barcelona-based AvantRecords. “Rokcr Broth” sent me involuntarily into a raving frenzy while driving the other day when I first streamed it via XLR8R…

I have not yet heard anything else off the album, but after stumbling upon this one gem, I’ll be sure to cop the whole thing and let it run from the top in the very near future.

Holden | Renata (Daphni remix)

Renata

In anticipation of his new album The Inheritors, James Holden shared a single entitled  ’Renata’ along with a pair of remixes by Daphni and Steve Moore.

In return for a previous remix favour from Holden, Dan Snaith, a.k.a. Caribou, puts on his DJ-friendly Daphni hat and delivers a weird blend of manic re-pitched vocals, rolling garage swing, and whirling psychedelic synths.

Disclosure | You & Me ft. Eliza Doolittle (Toro y Moi remix)

Chaz

Chaz Bundwick, better known as Toro y Moi, released this bouncy playful re-work of Disclosure’s “You & Me” featuring vocals from Eliza Doolittle ten days ago. Bundwick chops and screws Eliza’s vox in a way that is reminiscent at times of Mount Kimbie‘s debut LP Crooks and Lovers released back in 2010.

“You & Me” had its first makeover by Bauuer–you can check that out here.
