Slugabed | Moonbeam Rider
My first official Low-Life post is dominated by the extraterrestrial swagger of U.K. producer Slugabed. Moonbeam Rider is the first release on his newest affiliate, the irrefutably ill Ninja Tune , where he has resided since blowing the ears off of label execs with his jaw dropping remix of Roots Manuva’s classic track “Witness,” released for Ninja Tune’s 20 th anniversary box set.
Slugabed’s latest offering sounds as if it was crafted in another galaxy and filtered through the stars themselves before reaching us here on earth. It’s overflowing with squelching basslines; towering synths; and an underlying otherworldly funk that drives this ep to be his most danceable release yet. His music combines space age electronica, wonky half stepping, and a love for left field hip-hop; and I highly recommend picking up the full release Here . For those looking for a freebie, you’re in luck as well.
