Matthew Dear | Her Fantasy
Dear’s second full-length, (following up his lauded 2010 LP Black City), Beams is slated for release on Ghostly International this August.
This NYC-based producer blends pop, house, and experimental influences, adding thick layers of his unmistakable vocals, which can be interpreted as playful and lighthearted, or conflicted and disturbed depending on the mood of the listener.
Dear is well aware of the multiplicity of the personalities that he conveys in his music:
“I’m about 4 to 5 different people at any given time,” Dear says. “By allowing all of those different personalities to exist… the most pure and direct self can come through in the music. [The songs] may still be cryptic, and full of contradictions—but in my opinion, that is pure, unadulterated thought in musical form. They are direct lines to the center.”
