Potatohead People | Kosmichemusik EP

On the heels of 8prn ’s debut EP Time Waste , Jellyfish Recordings unchains their second release of the month- Potatohead People ’s Kosmichemusik (“Cosmic Music”) EP . Potatohead People is comprised of Vancouver-bred beatsmiths Nick Wisdom and Astrological who have both previously fashioned separate sonic identities apart from their project together. Astro has been producing beats for a minute now and just recently relocated to Montreal along with his band, Panther & the Supafly . And word on the street has it that Nick has a new EP in the works that should be in your hands by the end of the year. His debut, Nightlines , is available for listening and download here .

Kosmichemusik, which features the vocals of Claire Mortifee , Moka Only , and Frank Nitt , emanates a distinctly low-key, west coast vibe and builds on “their signature mellow synth-jazz hip-hop sound.” In it’s entirety, the record speaks to J Dilla in the instrumental grooves and the textures of the kicks and snares in particular. In terms of mood and sample selection, we can’t help but draw parallels between their sound and Nightmares On Wax ’s Smoker’s Delight.
