Vancouver born, Nashville residing low-life Robin Carnage released his optx EP on the first day of this new year. The optx EP features dark catchy hip-hop beats laden with chopped and screwed vocal lines from artists like Bun B, Young Jeezy, and Led Zeppelin. Robin contrasts arid atmospheres with cheeky melodies, hard-hitting beat patterns, and then drenches the result in a vat of southern grits; some might call his method a contradiction in composition, but in reality this contrast leads to an enticing and original sound. My personal selections from the EP include the title track, Diamonds (see previously) and Front Back.
