Magical Cloudz | Turns Turns Turns (Blue Hawaii Flüchtig Mix)
Blue Hawaii kickstarted as an experiment between Braids ’ vocalist Raphaelle Standell-Preston and Montreal-based artist, Alex “Agor” Cowan. Their first album, Blooming Summer, debuted back in 2010 on Cowan’s own imprint, Arbutus Records , and was comprised mainly of sun-drenched pop songs that Raph initially described as something like a “project of love.”
From what we’ve been hearing, their sophomore record, which is set to drop later this month, is straying away from the sounds they previously presented, taking a left turn in regards to both its production and inspiration. Cowan elaborates-
“A big thing for me was that the trip this time was more to Europe and specifically to Berlin. Going to a lot of deep house events. Late-night techno events in Germany. It was a big inspiration for a lot of the things that we’ve done on this record.”

Blue Hawaii ’s remix for fellow Canadians Majical Cloudz exposes this darker side of the duo that we haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting. Their take on “Turn Turn Turn” has an techno-oriented groove, and is sparsely inhabited by austere, stripped-down synths, Devon Welsh’s finely-tuned vocals and throbbing percussive bass.
