The latest release on Vancouver-based upstart dance-imprint ASL Singles Club comes from one of its founders – Mr. Markus Garcia, a.k.a. Heartbeat(s) .
On Hopeless Romantic , Garcia blends styles – drawing on Chicago house, Detroit Techno, R&B, and future-bass. The sounds of the Roland TR-909 Rhythm Composer, short re-pitched vocal snippet loops, and fat hi-resonance analog square-wave bass-synth riffs are common threads that tie the tracks together.
If I had to pick a favourite cut from the EP, it would be “Gina”.
