Cadence Weapon | Conditioning / Grimes Remix
“My dad said I was an afterparty baby. This goes out to all the accidents out there- keep on making mistakes.”
Rollie Pemberton’s roots in the Canadian hip hop scene run deep. His papa was a pioneering hip hop DJ on CJSR-FM and by the age of 20 Pemberton had already dropped out of post-secondary, committing the majority of his waking hours to music. Inspired by dance sounds (specifically Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk, etc.) and the eclectic tunes his father introduced him to around the house, Pemberton adopted the moniker Cadence Weapon and has since released two full-length albums. Oh, and while fiendishly continuing to push the boundaries of rap and electronic music, he was also sworn in as Edmonton’s poet laureate in 2009.
Weapon’s latest piece, “Conditioning,” is the lead single off his forthcoming record, Hope in Dirt City, which will see a release on May 29th. Soon after the tunes unveiling, Montreal-based electronicista Grimes offered her own interpretation on the track- a digital spin of the original, wherein she predictably injects those signature whimsical vocals.

[Space Dimension Controller]
In anticipation of his upcoming debut LP set to be released on R&S , Jack Hamill (a.k.a. Mr. 8040 a.k.a. Space Dimension Controller ) has posted a teaser, revealing that the album will in fact be an elaboration on the sophisticated narrative he’s constructed in his previous work, not that that’s any real surprise. He explains-
“Mikrosector-50 is a wee planet with two moons around it. One of the moons has been made to look like Planet Earth, so that the people of Mikrosector-50 know where they came from – even though they’ve never been there, because it was years in the past. The other moon’s got a big security turret on it, and that’s for the big Tiraquon Security Council, and it’s where Mr. 8040 lives. It’s called Armament Moon.”

“MK Zero 900″ was crafted for Benji B ‘s sci-fi special on BBC Radio 1 - “BBC sent over the show’s producer, and the sat in my studio while I made it in a few hours.” The track sounds like something that could have been featured in Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, the duo’s visual realization of Discovery.
