I wish Hot Flush would put up full-length tracks on SoundCloud instead of these unsatisfying teaser compilations, but that’s all we get for now…

Here is a preview of Dense & Pika ‘s Colt EP out on October 13th…

The title track is the definite stand-out for me upon first listen through. If you know this duo for their cold-as-ice stripped-down machine rhythms, you might be surprised by the musicality, warmth, and soul of “Colt”.

The live percussion jam in the last cut is very compelling as well.

A2. Black Deep
B1. Vomee
B2. Airless (Live)

Dense & Pika | Move Your Body Back EP

Following up “ Crispy Duck “, Chris Spero (otherwise known as UK house and techno producer Glimpse ) and Hypercolour co-founder and producer, Alex Jones, return as Dense & Pika with a new EP entitled Move Your Body Back for Hot Flush Recordings .

A1. Move Your Body Back
B1. Lack of Light
B2. Backstage Mute

The duo delivers unapologetically cold stripped-down functionalist warehouse rave techno. Their percussion-centric sound is marked by the sparseness of melodic content. Part of the appeal for me is the way the hypnotic repetition of driving machine rhythms and fragmented speech induces a trance-like psychological state.

They played the title track on their Resident Advisor podcast in March and it is receiving support from the likes of Maya Jane Coles, Boddika and Adam Beyer, amongst others.

Alex Jones | Haggerston EP

artistprofile_Hypercolour2

[Alex Jones]

Alex Jones -one half of UK duo Dense & Pika , and label-head of Hypercolour records- put out an EP titled “Haggerston” in April of this year through Hypercolour’s offshoot label, HypeLTD . The Haggerston EP offers a progressive, dark, and ravey sound; perfectly suited for the kind of clubs that open at 3am, filled with the sorts of people who chase the night until the sun rises. My picks off of the 3-track EP are the first and the last cuts; “Voltage” and “SMP” respectively.

Glimpse | Truth South EP

Yesterday, Christopher Spero, one half of the UK techno behemoth Dense & Pika , put forth his inaugural contribution to the consistently impressive Aus Music imprint under the moniker, Glimpse . The title track is rumbling and utterly cool, setting the tone for the entire extended play.

Tom Demac ‘s nefarious, but jovial edit of the record’s second occassion, “L Plates,” is a standout six-and-a-half minutes.

Cop the release in its entirety at Beatport .
