Odd Future ‘s Domo Genesis , and illustrious hip-hop producer/DJ, The Alchemist , have teamed up to bring the public a free mix tape, titled, No Idols . The mix tape features current hip-hop royalty, including: Earl Sweatshirt , Action Bronson , Prodigy , SpaceGhostPurrp , and Freddie Gibbs amongst others. The production on the 33 minutes of stimulating collaboration is a product that is consistantly Alchemist- which is a very good thing.

It has been reported that Joey’s childhood consisted of snooping through his father’s Jazz albums almost exclusively; this past fixation has blended effortlessly into the 1990′s-esque hip-hop in which Joey produces today.

Black Hippy member, Ab Soul , teams up with eccentric, Detroit-based rapper Danny Brown , and vocalist Jhene Aiko to bring us the ominous and illuminati-inspired single, “Terrorist Threats.” Top Dawg Entertainment (Black Hippy’s label) recently announced a deal in which they made with Interscope Records - “Terrorist Threats” is the birth child of these two labels collaborating. Dave Free of Digi+Phonics can be credited for the arid, and ill-omened production. I found the content of the track to be very dark, as Ab Soul proclaims “I seen an image of Hitler in the picture when the twin towers dropped.” “Terrorist Threats,” Heavy collaboration blended with sinister ideals, results in a passionate hip-hop track that deserves to be on heavy rotation in anyone’s library.

Hailing out of Chicago, Illinois, small-time and mysterious artist, Kami de Chukwu , passionately spits fire overtop of JonWayne’s Bowser . The questionable, minute-long introduction feels very drawn out, however, the preamble is easily overlooked as the rapper demands listener’s attention with raw emotion that escalates until the songs’ finish. “Kami’s” relatively undiscovered talent is definitely worth noting.

The White Boy Junk EP features 8 tracks, totalling a swift 11 minutes and 14 seconds. As of now, “Flash and Joe” lack any significant North American exposure, which is perplexing to say the least.

Big K.R.I.T , legally known as Justin Scott, is a soul-spitting M.C. and talented producer hailing out of Meridian, Mississippi. The 17-track mix tape, 4Eva N A Day , was released on March 5th of this year, free of charge. The mix tape is incredibly autonomous; K.R.I.T produced the album in it’s entirety, and even decided to go without guest vocalists. This solo effort goes against the grain of today’s collaboration-based hip-hop industry. ’4Eva’ exemplifies Big K.R.I.T’s considerable lyrical and rhythmic ability. Equipped with a strong southern drawl, K.R.I.T preaches motivational messages over soulful backings.

Hodgy Beats | Untitled EP
Hodgy Beats of the Odd Future collective released his Untitled EP this past Friday, free of charge. In the EP’s effect, I find nagging urges for violent head bobs and squeals of excitement. The 9-track tape features quality production from the likes of Flying Lotus , Juicy J , The Alchemist , Jonti Danimals , and Thelonious Martin . I can’t help but acknowledge the immense growth and progress that Hodgy has overcome, now taking the form of a highly skilled and confident rapper in no need of a collective’s support.

Falcons | Nigeria
FALCONS , the brainchild of local Vancouver boys, TightMike and KayleoStocko, has just been added to the roster over at Juicy , a young and budding imprint out of Lyon, France. In September 2011, the genre-bending duo introduced themselves with Indian Summer, a fusion of organic and laid-back hip hop beats. And to keep the ball rolling, soon thereafter the boys gifted us fans with a four-track album entitled Remixxes Vol. 1. Head over to their bandcamp here to pick up the previous releases.
“Nigeria” is a unique crossover between R&B and a distinctive blend of African-influenced glitch. According to Juicy-
“Nigeria is a dark track, a solitary noctural trip through the buildings of a deserted town. Mingling uptempo juke rhythms, R&B, and a unique blend of glitchs, coupled with samples taken from the African culture, the whole still has a modern flavour, showing us, once again, the extent of the duo’s influences.”
Keep an eye out for these two- considering their speedy output, it would be fair to assume that something new is already in the works.
