Gold Panda

It’s been nearly three years since the release of Gold Panda ’s debut LP Lucky Shiner and just yesterday, the producer announced that his second full-length is set for release on June 10 th through Ghostly International and his own NOTOWN imprint.

“Brazil,” the first single to be lifted from Gold Panda ’s forthcoming, sounds less organic than much of his earlier work. However, the shift seems appropriate given what Derwin Schlecker has said about the piece.

“I wanted to make a track that soundtracked my ride from the airport to downtown [Sao Paulo]. The [vocal] sample is kind of like an excited chant, bigging up the place, then it all gets confusing to replicate the traffic and buildings.”

According to Schlecker, Half of Where You Live is a “city album.” It’s somewhat of a reflection on many of the places that the artist has visited while touring – “[It’s] a jump from location to location… I felt like I was stealing a piece of each place I went to.”
